Here's how I fixed nsmtp.exe = 100% CPU ~Umberto Ekponechekings 13.Oct.03 08:58 PM a Web browser Domino Server 6.0.2 CF1Windows 2000
Here's what I've done and the problem has finally gone away. I honestly can't tell you exactly what step fixed it but obviously after the last 2 steps the problem is fixed.
1) Changed the Initial Transfer Retry interval from 15 minutes to 5 minutes (this would not affect you but we had mail building up and this fixed us)
2) SMTPNonStandardLineTermination=1
3) Pipeline Extensions for inbound and outbound = disabled
4) In Directory Assistance config, moved the NAB lookups (3 different NABS) to another server instead of the same server. Update, moved back to same server and smtp is still running well.
5) Upgraded server to 6.03 (full install, not incremental, I never do incrementals on the servers). Was running 6.01 then 602CF1, then 602CF2 and same issue.
6) Upgraded Symantec Anti Virus to version 3.01b157
Prior to these changes which mostly happened incrementally except for the final 2 steps, nsmtp.exe and nrouter would essential use 100% of the CPU constantly - either independantly or combined. Mail would pile up, I would kill the smtp task and mail boxes would empty. Restart smtp task and cpu would spike etc... Now, it's all good (knock on wood).
I'm running Win2k SP4 (same issue on SP3), 1 GB RAM and 1 PIII 850 processor.
